In the last year \u2013 and especially in the last weeks and months \u2013 <\/span>\u201cfinancial wellbeing\u201d<\/b> has suddenly become the new darling of studies, panels and PowerPoint decks.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Per se, this is not wrong. We welcome every bit of tailwind for a topic that has been ignored for far too long.<\/span><\/p>\n

But there is something much more serious going on here.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

When finmarie\u2019s founder and CEO Karolina<\/strong>, started this journey almost seven years ago, she did not wake up thinking: <\/span>\u201cI\u2019d love to add another academic study to the shelf.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/i><\/p>\n

What she wanted \u2013 for herself and for other women \u2013 was real change:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • fewer nights lying awake because of money worries<\/span><\/li>\n
  • more savings and investments, even with imperfect careers and broken CVs<\/span><\/li>\n
  • more freedom to stay or leave: a job, a city, a relationship<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n


    <\/span><\/p>\n

    That is why, while others are now starting to talk, research and preach about financial wellbeing, our team has already been working in the field for years.<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/span><\/p>\n

    We knew a lot \u2013 about finance, about being a woman in Europe (and especially in Germany), about the gender wealth gap through our work with <\/span>Mind the Gap<\/span><\/i>. But our instinct was not to stand on a stage and explain the problem to women.<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/span><\/p>\n

    Our instinct was: get to work. And that is exactly what we\u2019ve been doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

     <\/strong><\/p>\n

    Please, take a close look: Who is teaching you about \u201cfinancial wellbeing\u201d?<\/b><\/h2>\n
     <\/b><\/div>\n

    Whenever a new trend appears, it\u2019s healthy to ask a few honest questions:<\/span><\/p>\n

     <\/span><\/p>\n

    • Who is explaining \u201cfinancial wellbeing\u201d to me? Is it, once again, a group of men in suits telling women what their lives look like?

      <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • How much lived experience, competence and empathy do they really have for the specific challenges women face \u2013 career breaks, care work, part-time traps, divorce, unequal pay?

        <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Am I in danger of being mansplained again \u2013 just with more refined slides and a more elegant vocabulary?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          We believe you deserve better than that.

          <\/span><\/p>\n

          <\/p>\n

          We don\u2019t just analyse women\u2019s lives. We work with real women, every day.

          <\/p>\n<\/b>

          <\/b><\/p>\n

          <\/b><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n

          Once you\u2019ve reached your first savings target<\/strong> and put aside your six net salaries, it\u2019s time to take the second step towards financial independence for women<\/strong>: create stability!

          <\/p>\n

          First of all, this requires you to take care of your liabilities. There are good debts and bad debts. Good debts result from investments that create a revenue or gain value<\/strong> over time. That\u2019s, for instance, when you pay for an (expensive) advanced training or build up your own business.

          <\/p>\n

          Bad debt is when you\u2019re currently holding installment loans or financings, paying back liabilities or credit card bills. Hence, it\u2019s the sort of debt that can easily spiral out of control. If you have bad debts in your life, think of a strategy to get rid of them as soon as possible<\/strong>, maybe by converting a debt or by raising your installments.

          <\/p>\n

          After you have successfully dumped your liabilities, you may now proudly pat yourself on the back. You\u2019ve saved up a small nest egg and transformed your financial minus into a huge plus by settling your liabilities. This provides security and stability. You\u2019ve come a long way and have made headway on the road to financial freedom for women<\/strong>.

          <\/p>\n

          It\u2019s not an \u201copportunity for providers\u201d.  <\/b>It\u2019s a broken system.<\/b><\/h2>\n


          Some recent reports describe the current situation almost cynically as an \u201copportunity for financial service providers\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

          We see it differently.<\/strong><\/p>\n


          \n<\/strong><\/p>\n

          <\/strong><\/p>\n

          The fact that so many women have lower pensions, less wealth and more financial stress is not a \u201cbusiness opportunity first\u201d. It is a systemic failure \u2013 and then, yes, a call to action for those willing to do the hard work.<\/span><\/p>\n

          <\/p>\n

          We choose to be among the pioneers doing that work.

          <\/span><\/p>\n

          <\/p>\n

          Financial freedom also means: you define what it is for you.<\/b><\/h2>\n


          For us, financial health is not about yachts, status symbols or someone else\u2019s version of success.
